CSCB Professional Development Modules
Overview
As an addition to other courses and services offered to both
CSCB members and non-members, the CSCB offers six on-line
modules on single subjects of interest:
The six subjects selected are subjects which students in other
courses have expressed the most interest. A certificate of completion will be sent to the student upon completing four of the six modules.
For CCS designates, succcessful completion of one module is worth 20 CCS points.
In order to enroll in one or all of these courses, please complete
the Enrolment Application Form [PDF].
If paying by credit card, please fax your completed application to 613-562-3548. If you prefer to send a
cheque or money order, you may print the completed application and
send it by mail to the CSCB at:

Once your enrolment application has been processed, you will receive
a password and identification from the CSCB. This will allow you
to access the internet course on the CSCB website. After 90 days,
your password and identification will expire, so you must complete
the course within that timeframe. We suggest that you allow yourself
one week to complete each lesson.

Re-enrolment fee is 1/2 the usual fee. Students re-enrolling must
do so within 2 weeks of their original password expiry date.
Course Descriptions
All courses are offered through the internet only. Interactive
quizzes are
included in the courses. Enrolment is on a continuous intake basis
and access to course
material is provided for a maximum of 90 days, during which time
the course and final
examination must be completed.
Students will have access to a message board where they can
ask questions, make comments and suggestions, and answer questions
posted by other students. At this time, the on-line professional
development modules are available in English only. Canadian Harmonized System of Tariff Classification
Students will:
- review the structure of the customs tariff;
- learn how tariff treatments affect the rate of duty;
- study and become familiar with the General Interpretive
Rules; and
- learn how to determine the correct tariff classification
for goods entering Canada.
Understanding NAFTA
Students will:
- receive detailed instruction on how to complete
a Certificate of Origin;
- learn how to determine which origin criterion applies;
- learn how to determine the correct tariff treatment; and
- become familiar with the tariff shift and regional value content
rules.
Valuation
Students will:
- review the six methods of valuation;
- learn how to apply the value for duty codes; and,
- receive detailed instruction on how to determine the correct value
for duty.
Refunds
Students will:
- receive detailed instruction on how to complete
form B2;
- become familiar with the time limits for filing refund claims;
- learn the self-adjustment process; and
- review the difference between a refund and a correction.
AMPS (Administrative Monetary Penalty System)
Students will:

learn why AMPS was developed

learn how to appeal a penalty

receive information on how to prevent penalties

become familiar with other enforcement measures
Export Documentation and Regulations
Students will:
- understand what documentation may be needed prior to export and why
- understand the exporter and carriers legal obligation to report exports to the CBSA
- determine if an export permit is required
- be aware of penalties for non-compliance on exports
