A Message from the CSCB President: It is that time of year…

September 10, 2014

Carol West

I hope you had a great summer...

It is that time of year – the kids are back to school, the traffic on the commute to work is heavier, the evenings are getting cooler and the days shorter, and the CSCB annual conference is just around the corner.  Starting this weekend, CSCB members from all across Canada will be gathering in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador for what is sure to be a memorable blend of professional and personal experiences.

On the professional side, we are welcoming back one of our favourite business speakers, Donald Cooper.  We’ve engaged Donald for a full morning, working with two senior officials from the Canada Border Services Agency and two executives of Canadian customs brokerage companies. I like to think of this conference opening as thought-provoking and brave, and I am sure everyone in the room will take away something of value.  Keeping Monday morning’s messages in mind, we are then tackling just about every critical subject facing customs brokers and clients today – with opinions, insights and practical tips from legal experts, business partners, government officials, and some of our most knowledgeable Board and committee resources.

But it’s not all about business. The CSCB conference is always a chance to see old friends and make new ones. In addition to our welcome reception, we have left time for people to make your own dinner plans, and enjoy some social time at your own pace. And, just to make sure the St. John’s experience lives up to its reputation for fun, we have something special planned for the group. In fact, we have a hunch you’ll be able to check a couple of things off your bucket list before you go home!

Even though it is hard to believe how quickly Canadian summers race by, this is one of my favourite times of year.  For those of you attending the conference next week, it will be great to see you.  For those of you unable to attend, we’ll try and give you a flavour of what happens and hope to see you next year. To all of you, thank you for your continued confidence and membership in the CSCB.
