Become a CSCB Director!

Each year, we look for volunteers to join our hard-working Board of Directors where they can have the opportunity to directly influence the work of the CSCB which for the coming year is likely to focus on:

  1. CBSA’s commercial vision and the role of the customs broker
  2. The regulatory framework for customs brokers (the value of a customs broker licence)
  3. Implications of e-commerce developments
  4. Customs broker risk management and development of strategic priorities from industry and importer/exporter survey reports
  5. Promoting the image of the industry and the value of using a customs broker
  6. Member Engagement
  7. Improving CSCB’s processes for Board recruitment and development
  8. NAFTA review
  9. Respond to Auditor General’s Spring 2017 report on Customs Duties

Five positions are available for a two-year term, 2017-2019.

Interested individuals are encouraged to submit their names to the Nominating Committee for consideration. Please refer to the Director Job Description for details on the duties and responsibilities of CSCB Directors.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

The role of the Nominating Committee is to prepare and recommend a list of candidates to fill the available director positions. In developing its slate of candidates, the committee shall take into consideration firm size and business focus.

The members of the CSCB Nominating Committee for 2017 are:

NOMINATING PROCEDURES

The nominating process provides members an opportunity for input, both before and after seeing the Nominating Committee report, and gives members ample time before the CSCB Annual General Meeting (AGM) to consider candidates, should there be an election.

The following are two ways of being nominated for the CSCB Board of Directors:

1. Nomination by the Nominating Committee: Filing Deadline 15 June 2017

Mandatory Elements for Expression of Interest package (4 items in total):

  • Expression of Interest;
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) (will be published in Members Only section of the CSCB website)
  • Director Eligibility Form
  • 500 words (max.) statement of interest regarding why you want to serve on the Board including a response to the Board’s identified areas of interest referenced above; will be published in Members Only section of CSCB website.

Process: Only packages containing all of the Mandatory Elements will be considered by the Nominating Committee. Those who submitted expression of interest Packages will be contacted and interviews scheduled. Five candidates will be selected by the Committee which will issue a report containing the names of its selected candidates no later than 12 July 2017.

2. Nomination by two member firms: Filing Deadline 10 August 2017

Mandatory Elements for Nomination package (4 items in total):

  • Nomination Form
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV); will be published in Members Only section of the CSCB website
  • Director Eligibility Form
  • 500 words (max.) statement of interest regarding why you want to serve on the Board including a response to the Board’s identified areas of interest referenced above; will be published in Members Only section of CSCB website.

Process: Only packages containing all of the Mandatory Elements will be accepted. Nominees will be notified when their package is received. This is a direct nomination by two member firms and does not require Nominating Committee approval. Please note: The direct nomination option is only available until 10 August 2017, after which no further nominations will be accepted, either in writing or from the floor of the AGM.

A final list of all candidates will be provided to members no later than August 16, 2017.


If you are…

  • a principal or an employee of a member firm;
  • able to commit the time and resources to serve on the Board, committees, attend the annual conference and represent CSCB as requested;
  • able to serve a one or two-year term;
  • able to work well as part of a team, contribute reasoned opinions and accept and support decisions reached by the Board;
  • interested in the role of the Board as a strategic and policy setting body; and
  • interested in furthering the collective interests of Canada’s customs brokers
