Businesses are hurting

The following is extracted from the 13 June 2009 edition of the “Cornwall Standard Freeholder”.

A meeting to discuss the impact of the Seaway bridge closure found the business community outspoken on the issue, often calling on MP Guy Lauzon and the federal government to take action immediately before businesses lose anymore revenue and employees.

After making a brief statement, meeting host Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce president Scott Armstrong opened the floor to comments from local business people, who unanimously expressed frustration with Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan's apparent unwillingness to talk to the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne to resolve a dispute over the implementation a nationwide policy to arm border guards on Cornwall Island. …

Lauzon promised to share what he heard at the meeting and the four pages of notes he took during the meeting with Van Loan as soon as possible. …
