CBSA Message: Border Wait Time (BWT) Service Standard for highway commercial conveyances

September 25, 2019

Commercial Program Directorate (CPD) is pleased to announce that the commercial Border Wait Time (CBWT) Service Standard for highway commercial conveyances has been posted at both the CBSA Service Standards webpage and at the Border Wait Times webpage on the CBSA website. The service standard is set at 45 minutes (7 days a week) with an annual average performance target of 90%.

Performance results for the period of September to March of fiscal year 2019-2020 will be reported on June 1, 2020.

The commercial BWT Service Standard and the Performance Target will complement the existing service standard and the performance target for the travellers stream. Implementation, as well as, periodic reviews and analysis of the border wait time data will allow the CBSA to demonstrate operational efficiency and make better informed decisions affecting border operations.

The Service Standard will be included in the CBSA Service Management Strategy and in future Service Standard Annual Reviews for periodic improvements. It will also form part of our commercial performance reporting in the Departmental Results Framework, the CBSA Departmental Plan and Departmental Results report for FY 2019-20.

The Service Standard represents a step forward in the measurement of the client experience in the commercial stream, acting as an initial performance indicator as the Agency continuously improves key indicators and performance reporting capabilities.
