CBSA Message (TCC15-069) – Amendments to the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff – T2015-2

Clients Affected: All importers and brokers who use EDI to transmit their trade data.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) wishes to advise of an amendment to the 2015-2 version of the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff.

Rate of duty reductions included in the Canada-EFTA Free Trade Agreement are effective July 1, 2015 and contain changes to the IT, NT & SLT tariff treatments for the following tariff items:

Statistics Canada has made the following changes to statistical suffixes, also effective July 1, 2015:

With the passage of Bill C-51, the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015, effective June 18, 2015 the description of goods of tariff item 9899.00.00 is amended by adding a reference to “Writings, signs, visible representations or audio recordings that constitute terrorist propaganda within the meaning of subsection 83.222(8) of the Criminal Code”.

Version 2015-2 of the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff, reflecting all of these changes, will be posted on the CBSA Web site.

All changes will be active in the Customs Commercial System (CCS) beginning July 1, 2015.

For certainty regarding the tariff classification of a product, importers may request an advance ruling on tariff classification. Details on how to make such a request can be found in CBSA Memorandum D11-11-3, Advance Rulings for Tariff Classification, which is found on the CBSA Web site.
