CBSA Message (TCC17-167) - Suspicious Email

August 22, 2017

Clients Affected: All clients who transmit data electronically

Please note that a number of external clients have received what appears to be malicious emails from the CBSA-EDI mailbox, as well as other email addresses with the CBSA/EDI embedded in the name stating that an invoice is past due and needs to be paid.  DO NOT CLICK ON THE HYPERLINKS AND DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENTS.

The CBSA never initiates a request for personal or financial information by a telephone call or email. If you receive a telephone call or an email requesting payments or personal information, it is a strong indicator of a scam.

In some cases, these scams use false CBSA information. Telephone calls may display numbers and employee names that appear to be from the CBSA. Emails may contain CBSA logos, email addresses or employee names and titles to mislead the readers.

Make sure you recognize the signs of fraud and take action. Find out more on the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website.

Action Required: Please DELETE the said email and speak to your Internal IT Security.
