CBSA Message (TCC18-034) - UPDATE - Launch of GCcollab pilot project

March 27, 2018

Information that is posted on CBSA’s website must adhere to Government of Canada accessibility requirements and, as a result, ECCRDs and other documents cannot be posted. The TCCU looked for an alternative platform and earlier this year asked the CSCB to test the usability of GCcollab.

CSCB found the process for registration was straight forward and documents were easy to find. We thank the TCCU for finding an alternative means of providing trade with valuable information.

Clients Affected: All clients who transmit data electronically

We regret that some clients may be experiencing issues creating an account on GCcollab and receiving a message pertaining to email address not allowed.

We have notified GCcollab of this issue and will send another bulletin once resolved.

Another big thank you to the clients who took the time to respond to our client survey, posted on the CBSA’s website last fall. In evaluating your helpful feedback, a recurring theme we observed was a desire to have easier access to our Electronic Commerce Client Requirements Documents (ECCRD).

GCcollab

The TCCU is happy to announce that we are undertaking a pilot test of a new Government of Canada offering called “GCcollab”. By design, it is intended as an information sharing tool between government representatives at the federal, provincial and municipal levels as well as representatives of business, industry, academics and students.

At this time, the TCCU will leverage GCcollab specifically to provide our clients 24/7 access to technical documents, such as ECCRDs. In the future, additional documentation may also be posted based on the outcome of this initial undertaking. We will continue to keep you apprised of any new developments. Participation in GCcollab is strictly voluntary – please note that if you would prefer to contact the TCCU to request documents, this service will continue to exist.

What follows is some helpful information to get you started, in the event that you decide to participate in our GCcollab group.

Create an account

We invite you to create a GCcollab account at the following address: https://gccollab.ca by following these steps:

Step 1: Create a user account using the “Register” button on the “Log In” page. Important – please review the privacy policy and terms of use.

Step 2: Once you have registered, you will receive an email to validate the user account. Click on the link provided.

Step 3: Once your account has been validated and you are in GCcollab, select the “Groups” button, locate the “CBSA-Technical Commercial Client Unit” page and click on the “Request membership” button.

Once you are approved as a member of the TCCU group, you will be able to view and download all of the latest versions of the ECCRD chapters at your convenience.

Be notified of updates to specific chapters

To be notified whenever a new version is uploaded to a specific folder, by clicking on the bell icon (which will turn it from grey to solid) you will be automatically subscribed to receive an email from GCcollab when a change in that folder occurs. We recommend clicking on the bell for each ECCRD chapter in which you are interested, at the “English version”/”French version” level.

For the clients who are interested in registering for GCcollab, we hope you find this tool useful and we look forward to your feedback and comments at [email protected]. Please feel free to share this email with any colleagues who may be interested in this new self-serve option for obtaining ECCRDs.

Privacy

Please note that even though we have configured the TCCU group to maintain the anonymity of users within our group, GCcollab member information (name, email address and the user group to which you associated in the registration process [i.e., Business person, student, public servant, etc]) can still be visible to the other 19,000 GCcollab users. This is due to the collaborative nature of the GCcollab tool.

We understand some clients may not be comfortable with this. Once again, we will continue to process requests for ECCRDs at our email address: [email protected]. We will also continue to send out bulletins when there are important business rule or technical changes to specific chapters, or new chapters being released.
