CBSA Special Advisory - Alberta Flood Situation

Please note this advisory will be re-released as a Customs Notice shortly. The content will be the same.

In February 2013, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) sent a notice advising clients that although payment for the June K84 will be due as usual on the last business day of the month (June 28, 2013), should payment be received on or before July 2, 2013, late payment interest and/or penalties would not be applied.

Due to the recent natural disaster in Alberta, the CBSA recognizes that payment by July 2, 2013, may present challenges for businesses that have been directly impacted by the flooding in Alberta. For those businesses directly impacted, clients are advised that payments received by July 16, 2013, will not be issued a late payment penalty or charged interest.

Should payment be received after July 16, 2013, the local CBSA office will determine whether or not late payment interest and/or penalties should apply, on a case by case basis. Should a business feel that they were wrongly assessed late payment interest and/or penalties, they could apply to the CBSA for further review. Information on how to file a review is available on the CBSA Web site (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/recourse-recours/howto-commentfaire-2-eng.html).
