CFIA Dairy permissions expiring after March 31, 2019

April 2, 2019

A notice to industry from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) was released on March 26, 2019 informing businesses that all dairy permissions issued under the now-repealed Dairy Products Regulations would expire on March 31, 2019 and that a new Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence would be required as of April 1, 2019.

This may not be the case for all dairy products. Some businesses may have dairy permissions that expire at a later date.

If you currently hold a registration or licence (permission) issued under the Dairy Products Regulations, it will remain valid until it expires – provided there is a statement on it indicating that it is also a licence issued under the Safe Food for Canadians Act.

Permission holders are encouraged to check their latest certificate to confirm their expiry date and to determine when they need to apply for their SFC licence.
