CN 15-021, Amendments to the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff

1. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) wishes to advise of an amendment to the January 1, 2015 version of the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff.

2. The country of Burma has been granted the benefits of the Least Developed Country Tariff (LDCT) tariff code 08, and the General Preferential Tariff (GPT) tariff code 09, effective March 13, 2015. The List of Countries and Applicable Tariff Treatments section in the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff has been updated.

3. As a result of this amendment, importers may be eligible for a refund of the duties paid on importations made since March 13, 2015. Refund claims are to be made in accordance with the provisions of section 74 of the Customs Act, using a Form B2, Canada Customs – Adjustment Request.

4. In addition, the French text of 8302.41.10.XX, 8302.41.10.20 and 8518.30.91.00 has been updated to better align with the English text, effective February 26, 2015. Consult the amended version of the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff, reflecting all of these changes.

5. For certainty regarding the tariff classification of a product, importers may request an advance ruling on tariff classification. Details on how to make such a request can be found in Memorandum D11-11-3, Advance Rulings for Tariff Classification.
