[Cornwall] Border post move still an option, union says

The following is excerpted from today's edition of "CanWest News".

The Canadian border authority is still considering relocating a controversial customs checkpoint that once sat in the middle of a Mohawk reserve to the United States, a border guard union president says.

Canada Border Services Agency set up a temporary border post at the foot of a bridge linking Cornwall with Cornwall Island. The post was moved from the island after the agency shut the crossing in June following protests by area residents against the planned arming of border guards...

Ron Moran, president of the Customs and Immigration Union, said the federal agency was still weighing three options, including moving the checkpoint to the U.S. side, keeping it on the Cornwall mainland, or moving it back to the island. The border agency said in a statement that "all options for a long-term solution are being explored."
