DHS wants Customs to improve Michigan security

Customs and Border Protection should increase its intelligence presence, introduce additional standard procedures at ports of entry and deploy additional technology to improve security along a small segment of the Canadian border between Detroit and Port Huron, Mich., the Department of Homeland Security inspector general’s office recommended.

 

The August report released Friday without specific details says that inspectors interviewed Customs, state, local and other federal officials to assess the security challenges at five ports, most likely river crossings at Detroit and Port Huron, port facilities at Bay City and Saginaw, and an airport serving those cities….
