Elimination of Itinerant Carrier Codes - Update

May 25, 2010

CBSA has advised that, effective April 1, 2011, they will no longer accept generic itinerant carrier codes for any mode of transportation. This information is contained in a Customs Notice that was sent to members on May 6, 2010, and can be seen here: http://www.cscb.ca/050/rs_prev_e.cfm?ID=23984.

The CSCB asked CBSA if regions would have the ability to assign carrier codes for those carriers without carrier codes that arrive on a weekend or holiday. CBSA has confirmed that carrier codes cannot be assigned by the regions and confirmed that carriers without a carrier code will be denied entry to Canada as of March 31, 2011.
