Obama Nominates Utah Governor to be Ambassador to China

President Obama announced May 16 that he will nominate Jon Huntsman, the Republican governor of Utah, to be ambassador to China. “This ambassadorship is as important as any in the world,” Obama said, because the U.S. will have to work “in concert with China” to “best be able to deal effectively with global challenges in the 21st century.” … Huntsman is also “intimately familiar with many of the most pressing challenges confronting Asia,” the president said, having served as an ambassador to Singapore, a deputy U.S. trade representative for Asia and Africa and a deputy assistant secretary of commerce for East Asia and the Pacific….
