Preliminary Determinations into the dumping and subsidizing of certain silicon metal

On July 5, 2017, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), pursuant to subsection 38(1) of the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), made a preliminary determination of dumping with respect to certain silicon metal originating in or exported from the Federative Republic of Brazil (Brazil), the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan), Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos), Malaysia, the Kingdom of Norway (Norway) and the Kingdom of Thailand (Thailand), and made a preliminary determination of subsidizing with respect to certain silicon metal originating in or exported from Brazil, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Norway and Thailand.

On the same day, pursuant to paragraph 35(2)(a) of SIMA, CBSA terminated the dumping investigation with respect to certain silicon metal originating in or exported from the Russian Federation.

Provisional duties will now be payable on the subject goods that are released from the CBSA on or after July 5, 2017.

Additional information will be posted on the CBSA site within 15 days.
