Proposed change to the Customs Tariff

After receiving comments from interested parties, the Department of Finance has advised of a proposed change to the Customs Tariff.

Following is the text of their message to the CSCB; any comments regarding this proposal may be forwarded to the national office.

June 14, 2002

Further to submissions received to our letter dated April 10, 2002, we are proposing to amend the wording of tariff item No. 5503.20.10 to read as follows:

5503.20.10
Bi-component fibres solely of polyester crimped staple fibres of lengths ranging from 1 cm to 10 cm, measuring not more than 25 decitex, for use in the manufacture of thermally bonded non-woven fabrics, or thermally-bonded wadding, or thermally bonded felt.

We will examine this matter in the context of a forthcoming legislative initiative to amend the Customs Tariff.
