Qualified Officer

February 2, 2017

The CSCB, at the request of a member, has asked CBSA if a customs brokers company can have more than one Qualified Officer. The CBSA responded to our question and also indicated they have recently received several identical inquires. For the benefit of all members, CBSA’s response to this question was:

... As recent as December ’16 we (Ops Branch) had received a couple of queries regarding the number of QO’s a broker can have and to ensure that CRU applies the policy consistently I wrote to our Policy counterparts for clarification on this. We were advised that a Broker may only appoint one person as the Qualified Officer and who will be the main point of contact for the CBSA. If the QO leaves then another QO can be appointed. The Broker can employ people who have passed the exam so that in a situation where the QO leaves they can appoint from staff on hand.

If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to send them to the CSCB at [email protected].
