Request for the Removal of the Customs Duties on Steam Turbine-Driven Generator Sets.

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on steam turbine-driven generator sets with a range of 130 to 140 MW. These generator sets are classified under tariff item No. 8502.39.10 of the Customs Tariff, and are dutiable at 6% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff.

The applicants claim that generator sets at these power ranges are not available from Canadian production and that tariff relief would enhance their competitiveness in both the domestic and export markets.

Members with an interest in this request, or are aware of others who could potentially be affected by such action, are aksed to contact Paul Robichaud of the International Trade Policy Division at 613-992-2510, or by fax at 613-992-6761, or via e-mail at [email protected] by November 19, 2003.
