Restrictions on the importation (or transit) of fresh poultry products from Canada into the United States

Effective immediately the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Veterinary Services (VS) is placing a temporary ban on the importation of poultry and commercial shipments of live birds, hatching eggs, and unprocessed (not fully cooked) avian products from the province of Saskatchewan in Canada, based on the diagnosis of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H7N3 confirmed in a commercial poultry operation. Until additional epidemiological information becomes available to reduce the area of restriction, the ban will apply to the entire province of Saskatchewan.

All commercial shipments of unprocessed (not fully cooked) avian products are prohibited from Canada unless accompanied by a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) certification that the product did not originate from the province of Saskatchewan, or are accompanied by a VS import permit.

Shippers will be expected to present the required documentation to CPR prior to or upon in-gate.
