Sydney examines business potential with China

The Cape Breton port of Sydney is taking a serious look at the potential of future business with China. The port, local businesspeople and manufacturers have a two-year contract with a former Chinese student at Cape Breton University whose job is to look into business opportunities and develop contacts with the Chinese business community. …

 

The Port of Sydney and several of its users and stakeholders will release a port master plan in early 2008 and part of it will outline opportunities for the development of a container terminal. The port believes it has the potential to develop such a facility and be an attractive port to shipping lines and shippers doing business with markets in Central Canada and the U.S. Midwest.

 

Sydney, like many other ports along the eastern seaboard, wants to get a piece of the anticipated greater volume of cargo expected to come from China, Southeast Asia and the Indian sub-continent over the next several years. …
