Tepid growth marks recession's end

The following is excerpted from the 30 November 2009 edition of “globeandmail.com”.

The Canadian economy grew at an annualized 0.4 per cent in the third quarter, marking the first expansion in a year….

The growth, which was weaker than expected, came as stronger domestic demand outweighed slowing activity among goods producers in the mining and oil sectors…. It was the first quarterly increase since the third quarter of last year.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected 0.6 per cent annualized growth in the quarter.
