CSCB Webinar: The Trans-Pacific Partnership 2.0: Is There Room for A Deal Without The US?

When the US withdrew from the TPP, many experts appeared to agree that the TPP was “dead and gone”. Undeterred by President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the TPP, the remaining members of the TPP (the “TPP11”) have continued talks on how to move forward. A series of talks from March 2017 onwards, spearheaded by Japan, may set out a new path forward. One idea driving the most recent round of talks is that parts of the original TPP would be frozen in order to facilitate the ratification of the TPP at an early date, and to permit the US to return to ratify the TPP in the future. Chief negotiators for the TPP11 met again on October 30, 2017 hoping to hammer out a general agreement early next month in Vietnam on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit. This webinar, led by Daniel Kiselbach, will provide a brief overview of the status of this matter, interests behind the TPP and potential next steps.
