Supply Chain Security is Key, Says Commissioner

The following is excerpted from a news release issued by US Customs and Border Protection on 7 May 2008.

… Commissioner Basham spoke to the more than 400 air cargo industry representatives about another key issue on the minds of the industry and CBP – supply chain security. The air cargo industry is charged to implement a 9/11 bill mandate to screen 100% of cargo traveling on passenger planes. Underscoring that partnership is key to facing our ongoing challenges, Commissioner Basham said. "I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I readily acknowledge that our strategy would not have been possible without our good partners in the government, in the private sector, and overseas, and without the dedicated and hardworking men and women of CBP."

Commissioner Basham, also praised IATA’s e-Freight initiative which aims to increase automation within the industry saying that "improved automation by trade partners only improves the quality and timeliness of the information that we need to do our jobs."
