NAFTA surface mark

Surface trade between the United States and partners Canada and Mexico totaled $74.3 billion in April, a new record, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the Department of Transportation announced.

Trade using surface transportation between the U.S. and its North American Free Trade Agreement partners was 14.3-percent higher than in April 2007. The total value of North American surface trade in April topped the previous monthly high of $74.2 billion set in October 2007 by 0.1 percent.

About 88 percent of U.S. trade by value with Canada and Mexico moves on land via truck, rail and pipeline.

Surface trade between the U.S. and Canada totaled $48.9 billion in April, up 15.4 percent on-year. Trucks carried slightly more imports than last year; trucked exports increased by 13.1 percent. …
