Public servants accept Ottawa's offer

The following article is excerpted from the 24 November 2008 edition of “globeandmail.com”.

Canada's largest public sector union blinked in the face of mounting economic gloom, accepting the federal government's final financial offer.

The deal will see roughly 100,000 federal public servants receive a 6.8 per cent raise over the next four years.

The Conservative government is threatening to legislate an agreement if one is not reached.

Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada [PSAC] must now review and vote on the agreement in principle, reached late last night.

That vote is not expected until January….

Members should note that CBSA Border Services Officers negotiating group is included in the PSAC groups to which this agreement applies.
