CN Message: Temporary Schedule Change due to Intense Cold

The following message is from CN Intermodal.

Due to continuing severe cold weather in Western Canada, CN will temporarily increase transit schedules for Intermodal traffic moving to Ports in British Columbia. Transit time has been increased by 24 hours to account for all contingencies surrounding cold weather operations, and to ensure Overseas containers meet required vessel appointments.

This schedule change takes effect Sunday December 21st, and CN's reservation system has been adjusted to reflect this change. All Customers that currently have appointments on previously advertised cutoff days are being contacted and offered the opportunity to advance reservation. CN will monitor traffic closely during the adjustment period. This change in schedule should be considered a precautionary measure only, as the CN network remains fluid and is only experiencing marginal delays.

This change in schedule will remain in effect for the remainder of December 2008. We will review during the holiday period and advise of any changes during the first week of January 2009.

Due to the current forecast for cold weather into the later part of December, we are going to add 24 hours into our schedules. We are monitoring this on an ongoing basis, but we believe that this will be required to remain in place until the New Year.

We will review over the holiday period and make adjustments based on improved conditions. To make this easier for everyone, anytime a change is contemplated, it will be in place for a minimum of 2 weeks.

We are in contact with Customers who may have reservations right now beyond new cutoffs. Business will be protected, but we want to ensure enough time in place to protect all traffic.

No changes to Eastern Service are contemplated at this time.
