Certain yarn for use in manufacture of fabrics for high temperature emission hoses for the automotive market - Request to eliminate duty

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request to eliminate the duty on certain yarn for use in the manufacture of fabrics for high temperature emission hoses for the automotive market. DoF is proposing to add a duty-free tariff line to subheading 5509.11. The proposed tariff item would read as follows:

5509.11.10 --- Solely of polyamide, an aramid of poly m-phenylene isophthalamide, for use in the manufacture of fabrics for high temperature emission hoses for the automotive market

The products that would fall under the new tariff item are currently classified under tariff item No. 5509.11.00 and are dutiable at a rate of 8% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff.

Members with an interest in this request may contact Patrick Halley by April 10, 2009.
