Setting Priorities at DHS

The following is excerpted from the 17 May 2009 edition of Susan Kohn Ross’s “Roundtable” blog in “The Journal of Commerce”.

From the outset, Secretary Napolitano has stated the priorities of Homeland Security are:

1) Law enforcement
2) Disaster recovery
3) Privacy
4) Civil liberties
5) Critical infrastructure
6) Protect infrastructure…
7) Immigration management

The Secretary's Action Directives have focused on –

A) Improve intelligence sharing, especially with state and local partners
B) FEMA integration
C) Hurricane recovery, especially enhanced infrastructure
D) Transportation security, especially chemicals and hazmat
E) Critical infrastructure
F) Cybesecurity
G) Border security and immigration - improve services, improve enforcement, get to target levels, E-verify
