Border official to meet with aboriginal protesters

There was a glimmer of hope yesterday in a showdown between guards and aboriginal protesters that has shut down an eastern Ontario border crossing.

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne said Luc Portelance, the executive vice-president of the Canada Border Services Agency, has agreed to meet with them.

The Seaway International Bridge has been shut down since late Sunday over a protest by Akwesasne residents who object to arming guards….
