CBSA Message: Announcement of New Port Code Customs Commercial Operations Office St. Stephen, NB

The following message is from CBSA (EDI10-007).

This message is to the attention of clients involved in the importation of commercial goods through the St. Stephen, NB border crossings.

The CBSA has officially opened the new customs commercial operations office servicing the new bridge crossing in St. Stephens, NB. Port code (WLOC) 231 has been designated for the new commercial operations office.

Although the new port is open to commercial traffic, EDI transmissions using this port code will not be available until July 25th, 2010. This six-month period will serve to provide clients with the time required to update their systems. New port code 231 will replace port code 211 effective July 25, 2010. Clients seeking to import commercial goods via the new bridge will be required to transmit their EDI data using the new port code. This will include cargo (for EDI carriers), release and confirming entry/accounting data. Sub location code 9231 will be available for use on July 25, 2010 for clients whose normal business practice it is to transmit a sub location code.

Effective July 25th, 2010, the CBSA will discontinue processing EDI transmissions sent to port 211. Brokers and importers are reminded that entries must be confirmed using the same port code of release. For this reason, confirming entry documentation and adjustments for goods released under port code 211 prior to July 25th, 2010 will be accepted for a period of time after the transition date.

Brokers and importers with Periodic Settlement privileges, whose Daily and Monthly K84’s are generated at Port 211, will receive 2 K84’s during the transition period; one for Port 211 and one for Port 231. Payment will only be accepted at Port 231. Brokers/importers will be required to present a copy of each K84 for each port and should provide a separate cheque for each K84 during the transition period.

CADEX clients with a central accounting office of port 211 will need to have this changed to port 231 by July 25th, 2010. Additionally, RNS clients that currently receive RNS messages based on office 211 will require their RNS profile changed to accommodate office code 231. Please contact the Electronic Commerce Unit (1-888-957-7224) to have the required updates made. The Electronic Commerce Client Requirements Documents will be amended to reflect the addition of port 0231.
