Minister of Transport confirms Canada's commitment to international aviation safety, security, sustainability

The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today addressed Canada’s international aviation partners at the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO’s) 37th General Assembly. Officials from approximately 190 member countries were in attendance.

“Canada is proud to play a leadership role within ICAO and will remain a strong supporter as we tackle existing and emerging challenges in civil aviation,” said Minister Strahl. “The Government of Canada will continue to work with ICAO and the international community to strengthen the safety, security and sustainability of civil aviation.”

In his speech, the Minister confirmed Canada’s commitment to increasing aviation safety and security, as well as to finding a common way to reduce the environmental impacts of international aviation. Minister Strahl also expressed Canada’s continued support for ICAO and acknowledged its value as a multilateral body for achieving these goals.

Canada has one of the largest civil aviation systems in the world, with flights to many international destinations. Transport Canada is actively involved at ICAO to make sure Canada’s interests and positions are represented on the international stage.
