Today the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, met with His Excellency Li Shenglin, Minister of Transport for the People’s Republic of China.

“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to meet with Minister Li while he is visiting Canada,” said Minister Strahl. “Minister Li was a very gracious host when I met with him in China in October, and it is my pleasure to return the courtesy. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Canada-China relations, and both countries continue to benefit from our valuable ties that promote trade, create jobs, share transportation best practices and build cooperation.”

Minister Li will be visiting Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver, which will provide further opportunities to strengthen relations between the Canadian and Chinese governments and the private sector, and to further develop economic cooperation. While in Canada, Minister Li will meet with public- and private-sector representatives, including the Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, when they both take part in the Second International Conference on Gateways and Corridors in Vancouver on November 19, 2010.

“Over the years, our countries have built an extraordinary partnership extending across the cultural, economic and financial spheres,” said Minister Strahl. “We look forward to continuing to work with our Chinese partners to build our transportation links and further our mutual prosperity.”
