Canada’s Wood Products Industry: Industrial Outlook Autumn 2010

December 14, 2010

This report was released by the The Conference Board of Canada. The report offers a detailed five-year forecast of Canada’s Wood Products Industry.

Document Highlights:

  • U.S. Housing Market—While uncertainty permeates the U.S. housing market, housing starts have begun to recover and strong increases are expected in the next few years.
  • Canadian Housing Market—The market became overheated at the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010, and now faces a correction that will result in fewer housing starts in 2011.
  • Chinese Demand—After Russia placed a tax on wood exports, China turned to Canadian producers as a replacement source. Exports were up 78 per cent over the first nine months of 2010 and show no signs of slowing.
