Dumping Investigation into Certain Cold-Reduced Flat-Rolled Sheet Products of Carbon Steel

Revenue Canada announced on 29 January that it has started a dumping investigation into certain cold- reduced flat-rolled sheet products of carbon steel (including high-strength low-alloy steel) in coils or cut lengths (not painted, clad, plated or coated), in widths up to and including 80 inches (2,032 mm) and in thicknesses from 0.014 inches to 0.142 inches (0.35 mm to 3.61 mm) inclusive, originating in or exported from Argentina, Belgium, New Zealand, the Russian Federation, the Slovak Republic, Spain and Turkey.

The investigation follows a complaint filed jointly by Dofasco Inc. of Hamilton, Ontario; Ispat Sidbec Inc. of Montreal, Quebec; and Stelco Inc. of Hamilton, Ontario (the complainants). The complainants allege that the dumping of the steel products has resulted in loss of market share, price suppression and erosion and reduced profitability, among other factors. Revenue Canada expects to reach a preliminary decision on this matter within 90 days.
