Carrier Codes for Non-Bonded Highway Carriers

The following notice was sent to members of the Customs and Trade Administration Consultative Committee by Mr. John Kiefl, Manager, Carrier and Cargo Policy, in the Import Process Division.

This is to inform you that the 7000 carrier code series used to identify non-bonded highway carriers has now been depleted. Therefore, effective immediately a new format consisting of Numeric Numeric Alpha Alpha (70AA) will now be assigned to these carriers.

This format was chosen because it will continue to allow the easy identification of non-bonded highway carriers by Departmental officials, as all the codes for these carriers will begin with the number "7". The other important factor for this choice was that it did not require any fixes to the Customs Commercial System (CCS) and the Accelerated Commercial Release Operations Support System (ACROSS).

Members with questions on this matter should contact Mr. Kiefl at 613-954-7198.
