New Customs Asian Client Services Unit Announced

Creation of a Customs Asian Client Services Unit to address the unique needs of the Asian Pacific community has been announced by the Minister of National Revenue.

The Customs Asian Client Services Unit was organized as a result of feedback from a public forum on Customs attended by Mr. Dhaliwal in January 1999. It is comprised of volunteer members from the Customs Border Services and Trade Administration Services; it began operations in March. In co-operation with the United Chinese Community Enrichment Services Society (SUCCESS), the unit provides services such as Chinese-language import information brochures as well as other Customs information, as well as training for SUCCESS settlement officers.

The public forum referred to previously paved the way for the creation of the Customs Asian Advisory Committee, comprised of Asian community leaders volunteering their time and efforts to improve Customs service within the Department.
