Request for Elimination of Duties on Fish Meal
The Department of Finance has received a request for the elimination of the MFN duties on imports of fish meal for use in fish feed.
On 18 June 1999 an Order in Council came into force remitting the MFN duty on imports of fish meal for the period 6 June 1991 to 31 May 1999.
With the expiry of the Order, the MFN tariff was re-instated to 3 per cent on 1 June 1999. Fish meal is currently classified under tariff item No. 2301.20.10 and is duty-free under the US Tariff, the Mexican Tariff, the Chile Tariff and the General Preferential Tariff.
Members with an interest in this matter should contact Ms. Marie-France Huot in the International Trade Policy Division at 613-996-0628, or by fax at 613-995-3843, by 23 July 1999.
