Request to Remove Duty on Grilles

The Department of Finance has received a request to remove the customs duty on steel or iron grilles (racks) to be used in the manufacture of gas ovens.

These grilles (racks) are classified under the tariff item No. 7321.90.29 of the Customs Tariff, and are dutiable at eight per cent under the MFN tariff, and at five per cent under the GPT. The dimensions of these grilles (racks) are approximately nine inches by one and a half inches, and they weight about three pounds.

The applicant claims that these grilles (racks) are not available from Canadian production, and that duty-free entry would assist it in becoming more competitive.

Members with an interest in this request should contact Mr. Paul Robichaud at 613-992-2510, or by fax at 613-995-3843, by 17 March 2000.
