Truckers' Strike in Montreal

The following information is provided by Mr. Paul Hughes of Québec Region, following the information he provided on 23 October regarding the truckers' strike. We are grateful to Mr. Hughes for his input.

This strike is now in its second day. As mentioned yesterday, this strike has also affected cargo pick-up at container destuffing warehouses, as many of the carriers targeted also deliver LCL cargo. A meeting was held yesterday by the union to discuss their future tactics, and a meeting was held by the truckers association yesterday evening to discuss their strategy in dealing with this crisis. Nothing new has developed.

It appears the truckers have the will to pursue this strike until the end of this week, and possibly all of next week if there is no negotiated settlement.

Private truckers not targeted by the union are able to pick cargo up at the port, CN and CP Rail terminals, and at destuffing warehouses. Otherwise, no other truckers are allowed through the lines.
