Removal of Tariff on Cut and Sewn Leather Furniture Covers
The following request to CSCB President Carol West comes from Paul Robichaud in Domestic Tariff Affairs at the Department of Finance. He is seeking members' views on a request that the Department has received for removal of the tariff on cut and sewn leather covers for use in the manufacture of upholstered furniture.
The product is classified under tariff item No. 9401.90.19.99 (parts of seats) and is dutiable at 8% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff. There is also a General Preferential Tariff (GPT) rate of 5% for this product.
The applicant claims that this product is not available from Canadian sources, and that tariff relief would assist it to compete more effectively.
Members with an interest in this request, or who are aware of others who could potentially be affected by such action, should contact Mr. Robichaud by December 28, 2001. His telephone number is 613-992-2510 and his e-mail address is [email protected].
