Request for Removal of Tariff on Hydrocracker Bottoms

The Department of Finance is seeking members' views on a request that the Department has received for removal of the tariff on hydrocracker bottoms for use in the manufacture of white oil and lubricating greases.

This product, which has a viscosity of 7.44mm2/second or more at 37.8°C, is the residue which results when raw crude oil is subjected to crude distillation and hydrocracking.

This product is classified under tariff item No. 2710.00.91.90 and is dutiable at 5% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff.

The applicant claims that this product is not available from Canadian sources, and that tariff relief would assist it to compete more effectively.

Members with an interest in this request are asked to contact Ms. Shezara Ali in Domestic Tariff Affairs, at 613-992-4418 or at fax 613-992-6761 by January 17, 2002.
