Question

We had been advised previously that customs is currently accepting either an 8 or 10 digit HS classification on export documentation. However, when customs goes forward with mandatory 10 digits on export, will an AMPS penalty apply if the 9th and 10th digits are in error?

Answer

Yes the penalty will apply to the 9th and 10th digits. This is not comparable to the import situation.
