The CSCB has asked the CCRA for clarification concerning contravention C007 and the requirement for certain carriers to have bar-coded carrier codes. Our question was as follows:

We have a question concerning contravention C007. Although the contravention reads that a penalty will be issued when the CCD does not contain the required bar code, there are situations when the bar code provided is unreadable. A case in point is when the bar-coded CCD is faxed to another port for presentation.

We understand that in these cases the officer will key in the bar code, however, will a penalty be issued for an illegible bar code?

This question has been addressed in the updated AMPS Master Penalty Document, dated October 7, 2002. The backgrounder to this contravention now specifically states: "This penalty is not applicable for unreadable bar codes".
