Request for Removal of Customs Duties on Numerically Controlled Straightening Machines

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on numerically controlled straightening machines which straighten rotationally symmetrical mass-produced parts such as bolts, valves, axles, and the like. These machines are classified under tariff item No. 8462.21.91of the Customs Tariff, dutiable at 6% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff.

The applicant claims that numerically controlled straightening machines for straightening rotationally symmetrical mass-produced parts are not available from Canadian production and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness in both the domestic and export markets.

Members with an interest in this request are asked to contact Mr. Paul Robichaud in the International Trade Policy Division by December 12, 2002. Mr. Robichaud’s e-mail address is [email protected] and his telephone number is 613-992-2510.
