Request for Tariff Relief on Certain Polyester Fibres

The Department of Finance is seeking our views on a request that the Department has received for tariff relief on certain polyester fibres for use in the manufacture of thermally bonded nonwovens or thermally bonded wadding. These fabrics are described as:

Solely of polyester, of lengths ranging from 1 cm to 10 cm, measuring not more than 25 decitex.

These fabrics are classified under tariff item No. 5503.20.90 and are dutiable at a Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) tariff rate of five per cent.

Request for Tariff Relief on Certain Polypropylene Fibres

The Department of Finance is seeking comment on a request that the Department has received for tariff relief on certain polypropylene fibres used to manufacture sorbent material for containment or clean-up of liquid spills.

These fibres are classified under tariff item No. 5811.00.20 as a quilted textile product of man-made fibres, and are dutiable at 11% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) tariff.

Request for Tariff Relief on Certain Rubberized Woven Fabrics

The Department of Finance is seeking views on a request that the Department has received for tariff relief on certain rubberized woven fabrics for use in the manufacture of conveyor belts. These fabrics are described as:

Solely of nylon coated with resourcinol formaldehyde latex (RFL); and,
Solely of nylon and polyester coated with resourcinol formaldehyde latex (RFL).

These fabrics are currently classified under tariff item No. 5906.99.22 and are dutiable at 11% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) tariff. We are proposing to amend tariff item No. 5906.99.21 to include both of these fabrics.
