EICS Performance Degradation, 10 July 2003

On 10 July 2003, a third web server (Web3) was implemented to handle EDI permit applications exclusively to free up Web1 and Web2 servers for EICS web users. Performance degradation occurred due to database contentions between the three servers. At approximately 14:00 hours, Web3 was disabled, Web1 and Web2 servers were rebooted and EICS was returned to its original configuration.

An examination of the Web3 server revealed setup inconsistencies with Web1 and Web2 servers, which has been resolved.

On Monday, 14 July 2003, we will be implementing the Web3 server in the following manner:

1. Install the Web3 server to process EDI permit applications in parallel with Web1 and Web2;

2. Monitor performance on the three servers all day;

3. Tuesday, 15 July 2003, transfer all EDI permit application processing to Web3 and monitor performance.

Members’ detailed feedback, provided by email, on performance during this period will be very much appreciated.
