ITDU to sponsor trade data conference

The following article is excerpted from the 29 March 2004 edition of “The Journal of Commerce”.

The International Trade Data Users will hold a conference, "International Trade Information in a Changing Environment" on May 4 in Washington….

The event is organized in cooperation with the Census Bureau's foreign trade division. ITDU is a non-profit organization comprising international trade data users and providers. The conference is being revived after a five-year hiatus.

Among the events on the agenda will be a review of recent changes by the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection in data collection procedures. A discussion of future changes regarding detailed vessel manifest information provided by customs is also featured.

Various government agencies, including the Census Bureau's Foreign Trade Division, Army Corps of Engineers, STAT-USA and Statistics Canada, will demonstrate the latest tools to access data, including on non-U.S trades.

The Port Import-Export Reporting Service (PIERS), a sister company to The Journal of Commerce, will demonstrate their detailed waterborne manifest data on non-U.S. trades, including South Korea. The program will also feature a demonstration of trade information displayed in geospatial format using GIS software, a new way to analyze trade flows.
