Extension of Investigation respecting Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel Fasteners

On 9 July 2004 the CBSA announced the extension of the investigation respecting the alleged injurious dumping and subsidizing of carbon steel and stainless steel fasteners, ie screws, nuts and bolts of carbon steel or stainless steel that are used to mechanically join two or more elements, excluding fasteners specifically designed for application in the automotive or aerospace industry, originating in or exported from the PRC and Chinese Taipei.

This investigation was initiated on 28 April 2004, following a complaint filed by Leland Industries Inc. of Toronto.

Under normal circumstances, the preliminary stage of the investigation shall be completed within 90 days of the date of initiation. However, due to the complexity and novelty of the issues presented by the investigation and the number of persons involved in the investigation, the 90 day period has been extended to 135 days pursuant to paragraphs 39(1)(a) and (b) of the SIMA. Consequently, a decision to issue a preliminary determination or to terminate all or part of the investigation will be made on or before 10 September 2004.
