C-TPAT partners top 7,000

The following message is extracted from the 21 September 2004 edition of “The Journal of Commerce”.

The number of C-TPAT partners has passed the 7,000 mark, according to Customs and Border Protection.

The agency reported that 7,017 importers, carriers, intermediaries and others in the supply chain have signed up to be participants in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism.

C-TPAT is a voluntary effort to encourage companies to improve their logistics security. …

While more than 7,000 have agreed to join, 5,882 companies have sent in the required security profiles, Customs has approved 4,075 of them, and rejected 1,062; 406 companies have withdrawn from the program.

The final step for C-TPAT members is verification, but Customs did not have the total available on Tuesday.
